The Beacon Newspapers is dedicated to informing, inspiring, and connecting older adults through trusted local journalism, practical resources, and community events.
The Beacon publishes three free monthly newspapers: the Greater Baltimore Beacon, the Northern Virginia Beacon, and the DC/Suburban Maryland Beacon. In addition to our monthly newspapers, we publish the annual Montgomery County Resource Guide, a comprehensive directory of services and resources for older adults, their families, caregivers, and the professionals who serve them. We also produce two annual Beacon 50+Expos in Maryland and Virginia, connecting attendees with educational presentations, health screenings, exhibitors, and valuable community resources.
Our newspapers are distributed throughout Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Howard County, Maryland; Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties, along with the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, and Falls Church, Virginia; and the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, and Prince George's County, Maryland. Together, our three monthly editions reach more than 195,000 readers through over 2,400 distribution locations across the Washington-Baltimore region, with additional copies mailed to subscribers throughout the United States.
Founded in 1989 by publisher emeritus Stuart Rosenthal and his wife, Judy Rosenthal, president emeritus, The Beacon Newspapers has grown into one of the Mid-Atlantic's leading publications for adults age 50 and older.
